I was born in Winchester, UK before immigrating to Australia when I was 9 months old. I was raised in a sleepy coastal town just south of Coffs Harbour in NSW (lived on the beach for the first 17 years of my life!). I moved to Brisbane to do my undergraduate at QUT many years ago (Bachelor of Engineer – Electrical and Computing Science).
I spent over a decade with local Brisbane company Voxson where I was the Chief Technology Officer. Voxson was Australia’s only mobile handset design house and was ahead of its time with design methodologies, open architecures and technology. I built the team from 3 technical staff to over 80 people, establishing facilities throughout Asia. We licensed our technology to tier 1 handset vendors in Asia and Europe. I was one of the lead executive involved in the Voxson IPO.
I then moved to Europe in 2005, spending 2 years based in Windsor, UK working as the Chief Technology Officer for one of the mid tier mobile phone companies in Europe (managing large multi discipline technical teams in the UK, Finland, Russia and China). I was responsible for the technology direction, roadmap and innovation of the business as well as the core R&D. We launched the first mobile phone in the world with inbuilt GPS and SatNav in 2006. I then moved to Barcelona for 1 year (2007) working in a startup focusing on voice based services on mobile devices and accessories
I decided to came back to Brisbane in 2008 and co-founded a company called Ozmota. Ozmota’s vision is to solve information overload, and thereby drive increased productivity through socially empowered knowledge and discovery networks that are contextualised to the user’s current needs, thereby focusing their attention. Our digital lifestyles are getting busier by the day. The explosion of available material on the web coupled with the ever increasing mechanisms to interact is driving the need for a more effective, efficient, relevant and natural interface to support access to information, applications and people. We are suffering from “constant partial attention” where our attentiveness is constantly divided amongst an overabundance of information sources. The net result of this information overload is loss of opportunity, loss of focus and a poverty of attention in general. More details at Ozmota and when we come out of stealth.
